Multi-Colored/Black Satin Trimmed Blouse

I've tried really hard lately to keep up with this little blog I've got going on here. This month has just been a little crazy with all the working and freelance jobs I've had going on. But I'm taking some time to post. Just a simple post about a blouse. I've actually had this made for some years now, but it's never too late to show off my work.

This sheer multi-colored fabric was left over from a fashion show for SADA (Student Apparel Design Association- an MSU fashion club) I did in 2009. I don't think I've posted pictures of that yet, but I'll get around to it. It's from the pattern I used for a blue shirt I wore for the show. Click the link to see it.

Besides the sheer fabric, I used a black satin for the trim around the neckline. I also had to use an interfacing for the facing around the whole neckline (which you can see through the fabric). I'll have to figure out a way to fix it so you can't see the interfacing.

This blouse is from McCall's Pattern 5708 View B

It's a great blouse to wear with a cute belt, and there's plenty of colors to work with so there are a lot of options for camisoles to wear underneath too.

Floral Tunic- Class/Easter

This morning I had a class with a young women who is really interested in fashion and wanted to learn how to sew her own clothes. I love that. The project we did was a simple tunic. I'll admit that the projects they have available for the classes aren't as trendy as a younger crowd may like, but they are good introductions to sewing. Besides, this pattern included a belt she could make if she really wanted to.

It's a pretty simple design with a yoke in the front and the back, pleats under the yoke on both the front and back, 3/4 length sleeves, and a hem that hits just below the hips. The fabric I chose is a cotton floral print that had a texture of small nubs on the entire fabric. The vibrancy of the print doesn't allow you to see the pleats very well in the picture, but they add the fullness to the tunic. I also created my own bias tape to attach around the neckline.

The pattern also included instructions for a belt to go with the shirt. It's a simple belt, which I used material I had leftover from the Felt Flower Pillow I made. The tan went perfectly with the colors of the shirt. I used the extra self-made bias tape to make the ties for the belt.

I always make the actual project for the student to look at when they are working so I had this made about a week ago. That means I was able to wear it for Easter too!! I love that I get to do that.

Blue Sheer Tunic

Two posts in one day, but there's a reason. This tunic I made is also something I created to wear for my birthday. In celebration of my 25th birthday we went bowling with friends and family. So I decided to make another shirt to wear out. I wanted something that would be cute but comfortable to wear to a bowling ally. The fabric I chose was a sheer blue floral print that would breath if I got too hot while knocking those bowling pins down.

This tunic has a deep v-neckline as well, with 3/4 length sleeves, and a tie with elastic under the bust. The hem hits around the mid-thigh. It's a pretty simple design but still really cute.

Since the hem hits at the mid-thigh, it's something that could be worn with leggings (I had on skinny jeans). I may have to look into making the dress with the short sleeves because it would be great for the summer, especially in a beautiful cotton fabric.

Pink Floral Shirt

Today's post is one I've been meaning to do for a couple weeks but just got around to getting pictures. This shirt is one I made to wear for my birthday last month. I love making new clothes for special events so of course I had to make something to wear for my 25th birthday.

The fabric I decided to use is one I've have for quite a while and could never decide what to do with it. So finally I told myself to just use it. I love the delicate sheer floral print so I thought it would be perfect with a flowy top. I knew I'd have to wear a cami under it so I picked a design with a deep v-neckline.
The shirt also has a belt made in the same fabric (which is tough to see in the photos), and the sleeves have straps that tie into a bow.

The garments in this pattern are obviously a looser fit. When I went with the size indicated in the back, it ended up being a bit bigger then I had hoped. The tie belt definitely helps to pull it in for a closer fit. But I do want to eventually make the dress so I'll have to keep in mind to make it a smaller size.

Black & White Sheer Floral Scarf

This is the last scarf post I have for now. I have made other ones for Christmas gifts for people, but forgot to take pictures of them before I gave them away.

This a scarf I made for my boyfriend's aunt. Or rather his uncle to give to his aunt. He wanted a black and white scarf to go with the jacket she had, so I chose a beautiful sheer silk fabric with a large floral design on it, as well as a solid black silk. This is the infinity scarf without the buttons.

Here's a picture of it full length around the neck, showing the black silk side and the floral side.
Here is the scarf wrapped around the neck twice

I'll try to get pictures of the other scarves I made but they'll probably be posts later on. They are pretty cute so I'll try my hardest to get them.

Hope you all enjoyed the scarves I made.

P.S. I may start making them to sell so if you are interested let me know :)

Neutral Paisley Scarf

It's been a few days but I still have some scarves to show you, so here we go.
This scarf I made for my cousin. She told me not to buy her anything for Christmas, so I didn't. Instead, I made her something :) But I love doing that so it wasn't a stretch. (Although it was given to her a little later than Christmas)

This scarf is a neutral paisley silk with a tan silk on the other side. It has five gold buttons attaching the ends for an infinity design.

I love this one because the neutral colors could go with so many clothes, and of course I love the silk fabric and how lightweight it is.

Hope she loves it!!
